Composing messages

Last updated July 8, 2026

From Contacts, open Message (or compose to one or more contacts). You can also Reply from Messages or Spotlight when a contact messages you.

Who is listening

In the To: field, each recipient shows live online / listening flags (same idea as Contacts):

  • Online — they have Announcr open on a connected device
  • Listening — spoken alerts are unlocked and not muted on a connected device

A short summary appears under the recipient chips (for example 2 of 3 online · 1 listening). Presence updates while the composer stays open. Offline or muted people still receive the message in history; the flags only tell you who is likely to hear it live right now.

Text or voice

  • Text — up to 500 characters. Announcr speaks it in your voice pack (how you sound), with your name as an intro so recipients know who it is.
  • Voice — record a short clip with the microphone control instead. Text and voice are mutually exclusive on one send. Recorded voice (and your Settings name intro) may be transcribed for safety review — see Reporting and safety and the Privacy Policy.

There is a short cooldown between sends to the same person. Monthly allowances for typed and recorded messages depend on your Premium plan; when you hit a limit you will be pointed to upgrade or buy credits. Sending counts against your allowance; listening to others does not.

Reactions

Messages you send on a paid plan can be reacted to with an emoji — recipients acknowledge without triggering a new announcement, and you get a short React preview in a screen corner with their reactions floating up live. See Emoji reactions.

Extras you can attach

While composing you can add:

  • Intro / outro sound effects — short stingers before or after the message
  • Music bed — optional background bed under the announcement (see below)
  • Link — a URL with an optional short caption
  • Emoji burst — up to three emojis that shower on the recipient's screen
  • Self-destruct — after play, or on a timer (minutes up to several days)
  • Send later — schedule delivery from 5 minutes up to 48 hours. Speech is prepared when you schedule; the message is delivered at the chosen time

Music beds

When the platform has beds enabled, you can pick a music bed, how long it plays full-volume before ducking under speech (lead-in), and how long it continues after speech (trail-out). The bed fades out when trail-out ends.

Beds you attach when sending (composer / broadcast)

When the catalog has beds, you can attach one under a message or broadcast (lead-in / trail-out). Most platform/AI beds are free for the sender. If a track has a cost, the composer shows a quote before send. Offline recipients do not auto-hear the bed later — they can replay from Messages (speech only unless the bed's max-plays setting allows more).

Community broadcasts use the same picker. Beds are not a plan entitlement.

Beds on signals you subscribe to (personal "ringtone")

On X account signals, anyone can pick an optional personal bed under Edit signal preferences (default 5s lead and 5s trail/fade) — like a ringtone for that account. Signal beds use the platform catalog and are not a plan entitlement or usage meter.
