X listening
Last updated August 6, 2026
Subscribe to curated X accounts and topic X Groups from the Catalog. When something worth hearing arrives, Announcr speaks a short line and keeps it in your Messages history.
To hear a single long-form X Article read, summarized, or taught (including by tagging @AnnouncrFM), see X Articles. That is a one-off request, not an account follow.
Sign-in vs linking X
| What | How |
|---|---|
| Create / sign in to Announcr | Google or a Solana wallet on the login page |
| Follow X accounts as spoken alerts | Catalog → X posts (plan slots; Free includes 5) |
| Follow a topic roster | Catalog → X Groups (paid plans) |
| Link your own X identity | Settings → Linked accounts → Link X |
Linking X is optional and works like Telegram or Roblox: you must already be signed in to Announcr with Google or a Solana wallet. Announcr stores that you own that X handle (for verification and community features). It does not become a sign-in method, and it does not automatically subscribe you to that handle.
If an X account is already linked to a different Announcr user, you cannot link it again until they disconnect it.
X posts
X listening is curated — you pick from accounts the platform has approved. You do not need to link your personal X account just to follow public curated accounts.
Suggesting an X account
If someone is missing:
- Open X posts in the Catalog and use Don't see an account? Suggest one.
- Enter a handle any of these ways — all resolve to the same username:
- bare handle:
0xEthan - with at-sign:
@0xEthan - profile URL:
https://x.com/0xEthan(ortwitter.com/…)
- bare handle:
- An admin reviews the suggestion; when approved, the account appears for everyone to subscribe.
X subscription slots depend on your Premium plan (Free includes 5 — upgrade for more).
How X posts are spoken
- Short posts may be spoken close to the original wording.
- Longer posts are summarized into a natural spoken line (not a raw feed scrape).
- The UI can still show a View on X (or similar) link so you can open the original post — that is separate from what is spoken.
- The account name is not repeated in the spoken line — it already identifies the message in the feed (and can be added via
{{author}}in the catalog phrase if you want it spoken).
When you subscribe, you choose Everything (every post) or Important only (posts that clear the importance bar). That is your catalog stream — separate from the opt-in Important ambient lane, which can surface curated accounts you do not follow.
Photos
When a post has a single still photo, Announcr can describe the image so speech is not empty or a useless "shared a link" line. The description is a short, content-only sentence suitable for TTS (for example food, a product, a chart — whatever is in the frame). Multi-image and video posts do not get this photo description yet.
Links in posts
Unreadable URLs are not spelled out character-by-character:
- Short links such as
t.co, other shorteners, and URLs with long paths or query strings are dropped from speech. - Simple brand domains with no path (for example
microsoft.com) may still be spoken as the domain name.
For the first non-X external link in a post (after following short links such as t.co), Announcr may unfurl the page the same way a browser preview does: title and description from the site's public metadata (Open Graph / similar). Speech then names the page — "Article title. Short description." — rather than the act of linking to it. A post with a caption is spoken as its caption alone; one with nothing but a link becomes "a link to dexscreener.com" when the destination is worth saying aloud, and just "a link" when it is not — a shortener names nothing you could act on, and a generated host like "x7k2q9.com" is worse heard than skipped. The destination comes from X's own link expansion, so no extra request is made and a site that blocks preview bots is still named. These read as the continuation of the phrase template that supplies the verb ("{{author}} posted: …"), which a sentence like "Shared a link." did not.
Not unfurled (on purpose):
- Links that stay on X / Twitter (status pages, quote-retweet style shares)
- X media hosts (photo/video CDN) — photos use the image path above when applicable
- Pages that block bots, time out, or have no usable preview metadata — you may still hear a generic shared-link fallback
Only the first qualifying external link is unfurled per post.
Token tickers in X posts
Known ALL-CAPS tickers in the spoken line (for example BLOXX) are rewritten to a natural pronunciation for audio only (for example Blocks), using the same dictionary as price alerts. Message history keeps the real ticker. Only uppercase whole-word matches are replaced so ordinary English words are left alone.
Personal music bed on an X signal
Open the signal under Signals (or Edit signal from Messages) and pick an optional music bed for that account — like a ringtone. See Music beds.
X Groups
An X Group is one subscription backed by a platform-maintained roster of accounts around a topic. The roster lists named people, shows a thesis for why they belong, and is refreshed and human-reviewed centrally — you do not wire each account yourself.
- Open X Groups in the Catalog.
- Pick a group (roster, tagline, and recent rebuild time are all visible).
- Subscribe with Everything or Important only, then manage it under Signals like any other X signal.
X Group seats are a Premium entitlement (Free has none; paid plans get one or more). Speech, photos, links, and interrupt preferences work the same way as individual X posts.
